Background: Intersections included in Traffic Count Project include Texas Highway 289 and Farm to Market Road 1461 as well as Texas Highway 289 and Farm to Market Road 455.
  Traffic Count Project included 24 hour counts at each intersection, including all turn lanes for three days, November 27, 28and 29, 2007.
  The traffic count project was completed by HNTB.

An Overview of the Results:

1. The traffic has increased significantly in two years at both intersections.

2. The growth in population of Prosper, Celina, and Gunter has contributed to this increase as well as the retail shopping available along Preston/SH 289 that did not exist prior to 2006.

3. The intersection of SH 289 and FM 455 represents a hazard in the southbound right hand turning lane. After discussions with TXDOT, it has been decided to fill the ruts in the gutters, but to wait until the widening of SH 289 occurs to fix the turn lane.

4. The average daily traffic counted between the two intersections was:

  10,512 at the intersection of SH 289 and FM 455
  12,406 at the intersection of SH 289 and FM 1461
