Kindergarten – 12th Grade Providing a quality education in Celina is a priority. What was once predominately a rural, agricultural community is quickly changing as more residents and new residents commute into Dallas or surrounding cities for employment or own their own businesses locally. As more and more people move to Celina, the school district has the challenge of planning for the future in order to meet the needs and expectations of the changing community. The Celina ISD occupies 94 square miles in northwest Collin County and a small area in Denton County. The District is comprised of three communities: Celina, Alla and Weston. Student enrollment has increased 37% since the 1998-99 school year; and 8% per year over the past 5 years. Student attendance averages 96.9% and the dropout rate for the 2001-02 school year was 0%. Students are educated in four buildings: a grade PK – 3 elementary school built in 2003; a grade 4-6 intermediate school built in 1987; a grade 7-8 junior high school built in 1976; and a grade 9-12 high school built in 1998, with additions made in 2002 and 2003. The district recently voted on a $62.0 million school bond to build a new high school which will accommodate the immediate population growth affecting the district as well as prepare for the doubling of size in the next 4-5 years. The CISD participates in several cooperative educational programs, administered through the Region 10 Educational Service Center, to provide the best available programs for students and staff in the most cost effective manner. In addition to an extensive honors and advanced placement curriculum, the District offers a gifted and talented program for all grade levels and the option of graduating with a Distinguished Achievement diploma. The superintendent and school board trustees continue to pursue a comprehensive program, increasing academic rigor through advanced placement and college prep curriculums; expand the athletic programs to encompass more sports opportunities and meet the communities’ expectations that Celina’s school district will be on part with the surrounding cities of Frisco, Plano, McKinney and Richardson.
